Lake Presidential Golf Club Member Mike Kelly Qualifies for the United States Senior Open!
Mike Kelly, Member and Club Champion at Lake Presidential Golf Club in Upper Marlboro, Maryland is one a handful of amateur golfers playing in the United States Senior Open at Del Paso Country Club in Sacramento California.
He qualified at LPGC on a soggy June morning characterized by extremely tough weather conditions and a daunting USGA set-up.
“I bogeyed one, two and six and was three over par,” he said this morning from Del Paso. “The conditions were wet and heavy and it was tough out there. Then I made the turn making birdies at ten, eleven, twelve and thirteen. Suddenly I’m one under par and I start thinking… I’m in the hunt.”
Mike went on to bogey fifteen when he missed a short putt. He rallied by sinking ten foot putts on seventeen and eighteen to card a gutty 31 on the back-nine. He was the low round qualifier of the day with a two under par 70.
The membership and staff at LPGC are proud of Mike’s gritty performance and are 100% behind him as he competes in a Senior Open field that reads like a Golf Hall of Fame roster.
