(UPPER MARLBORO, MD) – Lake Presidential Golf Club is ranked No. 2 on Golfweek magazine’s recently-released 2016 “Best Courses You Can Play, State-by-State” list.
Under Billy Casper Golf management since late 2014, the widely popular layout 25 miles east of Washington, DC topped more than 175 eligible courses in Maryland. Built around a scenic, 30-acre lake in an upscale community, the course consistently presents pristine conditions and a variety of challenging yet entertaining holes.
The state-by-state rankings – tallied by hundreds of Golfweek raters across America – take into account overall strength of routing, feature shaping, natural settings, greens, variety and remarkable nature of holes, conditioning and maintenance, landscape management and other criteria.
“A high amount of repeat golfers shows we are operating on all cylinders,” says Tim Woodruff, General Manager of Lake Presidential Golf Club. “Steadfast support from Ryko Development and Billy Casper Golf, combined with personable service and unforgettable experiences, contribute to the club being a mainstay on several ‘best-of’ lists.”
“We’re thrilled with the many improvements done to the course,” says Mark Watt, a long-time member of Lake Presidential Golf Club. “Thanks to the hard work and dedication of Tim and his team, the greens are true and fast and the fairways are plus and firm; it’s gorgeous here.”
The Golfweek honor follows Lake Presidential being named a “Top 10 New Course in the United States” by GOLF Magazine upon opening in 2008 and “the best kept secret in DC golf” by Golf Channel.

Lake Presidential Golf Club’s 18-hole, par-72, 7,230-yard layout meanders through heavily wooded terrain and rich, natural expanses. Generous landing zones and entertaining green complexes make for a balanced test for golfers of all skill levels. Five sets of tees, handsomely groomed playing surfaces, white-sand bunkers and picturesque streams round out the excitement.
Among its remarkable holes is the 570-yard, par-5 No. 8 that requires an accurate tee shot through trees to set up an approach to a narrow green guarded by bunkers and the course’s namesake lake.
